Vladimir Tomic and Ana Pavlovic (both Danish artists with Ex-Yugoslavian background) are now represented in the collection of SMK -The Danish National Gallery. After being screened at the seminar “Looking for another space of belonging” at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, two videos by Vladimir and Ana, respectively, were sold to SMK to be included in “nation’s largest collection of art”.
This purchase is more than a financial support and professional acknowledgment. I also optimistically choose to interpret it as an institutional statement regarding diversity, encouraging a critical revision of concepts such as “nation state”, “national identity” and “national heritage” – Concepts which in the present time of migration and mobility urgently call for redefinition.
I’m very proud to be working with Vladimir and Ana and thankful to SMK for recognizing the quality of their artistic work and for considering their videos relevant for a wider audience and important to preserve for the future generations.
